Om’as hausmannkost

Oma’s was created in memory of Hannelore Specht, of Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and Cockeysville, Maryland. My Oma and Opa immigrated to Maryland during the Second World War, where they started anew, raised my father, built a community, and lived their entire lives.

What does "hausmannkost" mean?

This German term translates to “home-cooked food” and it refers to simple, comforting, hearty, and traditional dishes that are typically prepared and enjoyed in a family setting. (And “Oma” is the word for “grandmother”!)

Forget the lederhosen and stereotypical tunes, we’re all about bringing the bold palates of Germany to Baltimore in a cozy, casual setting. Join us for a taste of Germany without the yodeling– just homemade food and good vibes with a sprinkle of modern flair!

Nestled in the heart of Fells Point, Baltimore, Oma’s Hausmannkost is an homage to the vibrant history of German immigrants in Maryland. Our exterior mirrors the branded colors and patterns, as well as traditional German architecture, and charming, blossoming flower boxes. And, a true Marylander’s favorite: Oma’s rendition of our beloved flag.

The Rotunda-inspired blackletter typeface showcasing “Oma’s” harks back to the charming lettering of antique German typography. It’s a nod to tradition infused with a playful warmth that mirrors the essence of the brand. You’ll find “hausmannkost” in a soft, embracing script font – capturing not just the vibe of our spot but the soul of the delectable dishes we proudly whip up.

The woodpecker icon is a tribute to my last name and was designed to dance seamlessly with the weight variations of the blackletter typeface.
